Guidelines for Infection Control Policy

Investigation (Microbiology)

  • Bacteriology - Staining & Microscopy, Aerobic & Anaerobic culture of blood, CSF, urine, pus, respiratory & other body fluids. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing and MIC testing by Etest. Rapid test for pyogenic meningitis.
  • Immunodiagnostics - ASLO, CRP, RF, Widal
  • Mycology - Direct microscopy of various samples for fungal elements, special stains & culture, Antigen detection & antifungal susceptibility of yeasts and molds (Aspergillus species) , PAN fungal PCR .
  • TB - DOTS lab management, Microscopy, culture and sensitivity, first and second line ATT, accuprobe AMTDT and real time PCR for extrapulonary TB, quartiferon TB gold.
  • Virology - ELISA for Dengue, Chikungunya, CMV, Herpes, Rubella.
  • Parasitology - Serology for Leishmaniasis (rk – 39), filaria, amoebiasis, hydatid disease, toxoplasma (IgG, IgM), Neuro cryptococcosis, Microscopy for malaria, filaria, Stool for ova – cyst.

Timing:

Laboratory is open from 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM (Monday to Friday) and from 9.00 AM to 1.00 PM (Saturday). Emergency services are provided on Sunday and Holiday (9.00 AM to 12.00 Noon). 
Samples are received till 12.00 Noon. However, emergency samples are received till 3.00 PM on working days.

Reports:

Reports are released and distributed in ward & OPD’s as and when ready.

Other Activities:

Infection Control: 
Department conducts prevalence survey annually to monitor Hospital Acquired Infection rates in addition to laboratory based surveillance of pathogens & their antibiotic resistance patterns.
