The Department of Physiology has well equipped Human Physiology, Hematology and Clinical Physiology laboratories for under-graduate and post graduate teaching, research and clinical service. Additionally, it has advanced, state of the art Chest Examination Simulators for cardiac and respiratory system on which the undergraduate and postgraduate students are trained and assessed.
There is a fully equipped AFT (Autonomic Function Test) lab for research activities and clinical testing. The Exercise Physiology lab has provision for recording all cardio- respiratory and metabolic responses to exercise. Various research projects and academic activities are carried on in these laboratories.
The departmental library has an impressive collection of books, thesis, synopsis and journals available for ready reference of faculty members, undergraduate and postgraduate students. A museum showcasing the history of physiology has been developed as per MCI norms.
The department has a well-structured teaching schedule for the MBBS students in the form of theory lectures, tutorials, practical, student seminars and quizzes. The undergraduates MBBS students also won the third prize in the prestigious Inter- collegiate Undergraduate Physiology Quiz held annually at Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi.
Besides teaching first year MBBS students and students of various paramedical courses, the faculty of this department have been entrusted with key administrative duties. Dr. Himani Ahluwalia, Nodal Officer for MCI OFAMOS- DMMP Project. Other senior faculty members have been appointed nodal officers for NEET counselling conducted by DGHS, NIRF Ranking Survey. They are actively involved in administrative activities related to postgraduate and undergraduate committees. They are also members of the medical education cell, institutional protocol review and curriculum committee.
Additionally, Dr. Raj Kapoor – Head of Department have been recently awarded the Best Teacher Award 2019 by the Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologists of India.
Medical Physiology teaching is being carried out for the following courses –
- MBBS
- M.D. Physiology
- BSc. (H) Nursing
- BPO
- BSc. MLT
