Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry was set up in December 2001 at the inception of the Vardhman Mahavir Medical College. The Department is engaged in both academics, laboratory services and is actively involved in quality education, medical research, training and patient Care.

Quality Control Assurance Pragramme:

The Department is actively involved in quality control programme and participating in EQAS programme Internal quality is well maintained for all parameters. The department is also involved in conducting medical examination of the candidates during their selection by conducting their lab tests. The department is also actively involved in conducting screening programme for the welfare of technical staff of various departments of the hospital.

Academic Services:

The Department of Biochemistry is consistently involved in imparting quality education to the students taking admission under various courses like M.D. (Biochemistry), MBBS, B.Sc. (Hons) Nursing and B.Sc. MLT, including training programs of MRT/MRO and short-term training to the Biotechnology students.

The Faculty members are also involved in thesis work of various MD, MS, DM, MCh and DNB students of the hospital. Mostly the work is focused on molecular and genetic research for which a well-equipped molecular biology lab has been established in the department

Routine Lab Services:

The total number of Investigations done in the Routine Biochemistry lab from (January 2023 to December 2023) were 13,67,301. There has been a significant increase in the total numbers of Investigations done. The lab is equipped with three auto analysers at present.

Emergency Lab Services:

An independent Emergency Biochemistry Lab was set up in New Emergency Block of VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, providing services to hospital round the clock. The lab is equipped with two fully automated analyzers with throughput of 1200 tests/hrs turn around time of less than 2.5 hrs. The lab performed 24,41,355 tests in the year 2023.

Glucose, Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, T.Bil, D.Bil, AST, ALT, ALP, Urea, Creatinine, CK,CK-MB, Amylase, CSF Sugar/Protein,Body Fluid Protein, Calcium , Phosphorus, Mg, LDH , Albumin, Total Protein, Urinary-(Creatinine, Electrolytes (Na, k ,Cl), Glucose , Phosphorus.)
  • Emergency (24*7) Biochemistry Lab –Glucose, Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, T.Bil, D.Bil, AST, ALT, ALP, Urea, Creatinine, CK, CK-MB, Amylase, Lipase, CSF Sugar/Protein, Body Fluid Protein, Calcium , Phosphorus , Mg, LDH, Albumin, Total Protein, Cholinesterase.
