Endocrinology

The department of Endocrinology is a superspeciality department, which deals with all kinds of hormonal problems involving endocrine glands. The Endocrinology OPD service is rendered through Endocrinology clinic and Diabetes clinic. The diabetic clinic caters exclusively to diabetic patients while the endocrinology clinic caters to all other endocrine problems as well as diabetes. The department runs 7 clinic every week-New Endocrine cases-twice/week, Follow up Diabetic clinic-twice/week, Follow up Endocrine clinic-twice/week, Pediatric and Adolescent follow up clinic along with young onset diabetes(onset < 25 years)-once /week. Patients are referred from Delhi and adjoining states. Patients are also referred from CGHS & MCD dispensaries of Delhi & NCR, polyclinics, Railways, ESI & BSF hospitals & also private places.

The Endocrinology lab mostly caters to the diabetic patients due to lack of equipment for specific hormonal tests. Reports of blood glucose-fasting & postprandial (done for patients registered for the follow up clinic) are given on the same day by 2-00 P.M., to enable the patients to show the report to the doctors in the afternoon clinic and get advice on the same day. Lab support service is utilized in the diabetic clinic by getting the random blood glucose by glucometer & urine ketone immediately during clinic hours in suspected ketosis patients. Point-of-care HbA1c test, urine for microalbumin are also done for the registered patients on advice of treating doctors. Osmolarity (serum and urine) is done for suspected diabetes insipidus patents.
