The Department of Community Medicine at VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital is committed to providing quality education to its undergraduate and post-graduate students and quality care to the community. The Department is catering to the rural populations of Najafgarh and Fatehpur Beri, along with the urban village residents of Aliganj, Kotla Mubarakpur via its three health centers & one Preventive Health & Screening OPD. Along with providing basic health services, the Department is encouraging research activities to facilitate excellence in academics and related endeavors.

Services to the Community
Primary Health Centre, Fatehpur Beri
PHC, Fatehpur Beri is located at a distance of 20 km from VMMC. It caters to a population of 73,000.

- Animal Bite Clinic - is held two days in a week for Nutritional status and growth assessment of under-5 children, counseling of mothers regarding feeding and child care, follow-up of malnourished children.
- DOTS Center - The DOTS centre in the UPHC provides the services of sputum microscopy, distribution of ATT and maintenance of records.
- Dental OPD - Dental OPD is held six days a week.
Outreach Activites
Medical camps - Multiple health camps conducted in collaboration with MCW Centre at Kharak, Chandan Hola, Bhati.
Field visits - House to house visits in Kharak and Chandan Hola villages for counseling and motivating families showing resistance to immunization of children.
Rural Health Training Centre, Najafgarh
Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Najafgarh is located at a distance of 35 km. from VMMC and it caters to a population of 1, 60,000.

Urban Health Centre, Aliganj
The UHTC at Aliganj is operational since February 2012, and is situated 2 kilometres away from Safdarjung Hospital. It caters to a population of approximately 22,000, comprising mainly of migrants.

Preventive Health And Screening OPD
The preventive health and screening OPD was commemorated on 2nd September, 2021. It is situated in the first floor of the new OPD block (Room No. 104, 105, 106 & 107). It is operational from 9AM to 4PM on weekdays (Mon – Fri) and till 1PM on Saturdays.

UPHC, Fatehpur Beri Center
Health Talks
- Heat Related Illness: A series of Health talk on Heat related illness were organized in Fatehpur Beri on 8th June 12th June, 15th June by the Residents and Interns of Fatehpur Beri. The topics covered are symptoms, prevention strategies, and staying safe during heat waves.
- Blood Donation: Discussed the importance of donation, eligibility criteria, and health benefits for donors. Health talk was conducted on 15th June.
- Oral Cancer Survey and Tobacco Cessation Counseling : Patients attending the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) clinics with a history of current tobacco use are screened for oral cancer. Those suspected cases are referred to higher center for evaluation. Tobacco cessation counselling done by the Resident and Medical social worker.
- Growth Monitoring : Children attending immunization clinics (Well baby clinics) are regularly monitored for growth and development on Wednesdays and Fridays. Children with malnutrition are given counselling by Health
- Management of Moderate and Severe Acute Malnutrition : Post Graduate students are assigned to children with Severe Acute Malnutrition. They conduct home visits and ensure comprehensive management, including counseling and appropriate interventions along with Health Educator.
- Health Camp : Recently held in collaboration with the Asian Medical Student Association, a health talk, community anemia screening and menstrual kit distribution among pregnant women and adolescent girls was conducted at Anganwadi 21 of Fatehpur Beri (Asola) by the Residents and Interns of Fatehpur Beri on June 7th. The Anganwadi comes under the field of practice area of the Urban Health Training Center of Fatehpur Beri District.
- NCD Screening : Conducted for individuals aged 30 and above attending the medicine outpatient department.
- A cancer survey is being conducted at the Fatehpur Beri center.

Health Camp in Sweet Home (NGO)
- A health camp will be conducted for resident of Sweet Home, NGO at Najafgarh.
- All the residents above 30 will be screened for common Non-Communicable Diseases.
- All the children will be screened for nutritional deficiencies.
- Growth monitoring of all the children will also be done.
- Referral to higher centre if required.
- Distribution of necessary medication to required residents.
Health awareness session on the occasion of “World Population Day”
- Role play will be conducted at the RHTC OPD premises and in Mitraon Village.
- People will be made aware about the different types of contraceptive available at the RHTC.
