Nursing College
School of Nursing was established in Safdarjang Hospital in the year 1960 for conducting a Course on Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery, of 3½ yrs duration. The School of Nursing is upgraded to College of Nursing in the year 2008 with an annual intake of 100 students. B.Sc.(H) Nursing programme is of 4 years duration. The College of Nursing is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh I. P. University & recognised by Indian Nursing Council & Delhi Nursing Council. At present the total strength of students is 250. The current intake for the year 2014-15 is 50 students.
The primary objective of college is to provide education in the field of Nursing.
Criteria of Admission
Pass in 12th class of 10+2 of CBSE with Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) or equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology provided that the candidate has passed in each subject separately. The candidate must also have passed English (core or elective) in qualifying examination.

Job Responsibilities-Principal
- General Administration of School/College of Nursing.
- General administration and overall supervision of teaching programmes.
- Supervision of students welfare, health and security services.
- Supervision and guidance of teaching staff including organization of in-service education of staff.
- Responsibility for organizing workload of staff including teaching assignments.
- Guidance and counselling of students.
- Administrative arrangements for students’ clinical experience and teaching in hospital and public health field.
- Recruitment of staff and admission of students.
- Responsibility for conduct of examinations.
- Supervision of living conditions of students in hostel.
- Maintenance of permanent records of students.
- Preparation of reports (School/College reports, progress reports).
- Review and revision of policies, rules, regulations & philosophy of the School/College.
- Performing public relations duties for the School/College.
- Procurement of School/College equipments, supplies, stationery.
- Preparation of budgetary proposals.
- Supervision of hostel and office staff.
- Participation in the school’s/College’s committee work.
- Participation in teaching programmes.
- Supervision of library services.
- Planning for development of the school/college.
Vice Principal assist Principal in above said responsibilities. Vice Principal will officiate in absence of Principal.
Job Responsibilities-Lecturers
- Responsible for planning and implementation of teaching programmes.
- Teaching subjects in the curriculum.
- Over-all supervision of clinical teaching programme of subjects in hospital/Public Health field.
- Assisting in the administration of the School/College of Nursing.
- Supervision and guidance of junior teaching staff including in-service education of teachers.
- Supervision of students’ health, welfare and security.
- Assisting in the selection of students and admission.
- Assisting in examinations, tests (periodicals and terminals).
- Supervision of living conditions of students in the hostel.
- Preparation of reports on students’ progress.
- Assisting in maintenance of school records.
- Participation in student guidance activities.
- Guiding students’ extra-curricular programmes.
- Assisting the Principal in the general administration of the School/College.
- Assisting the Principal in the procurement of School/College supplies and equipments.
- Assisting in the library.
- Planning, implementation and evaluation of specific courses.
Job Responsibilities - Sister Tutor
The Sister Tutor is responsible to the Principal, College of Nursing/School of Nursing for organizing and conduct of the teaching programme in the School/College of Nursing. The following responsibilities and duties pertain to the Sister Tutor.
Teaching
- Planning of the teaching programme including an orientation programme in consultation with the Principal/Vice Principal
- Planning for students’ practical experience, ward assignments and vacations in consultation with the Principal/Vice Principal.
- Planning of ward teaching programme with the cooperation and collaboration of Principal/Vice Principal
- Preparation for classes and demonstrations, displays of educational material on notice board.
- Teaching of all nursing subjects with assistance from other members of the staff.
- Guidance to students in methods of study and use of reference books and library, Individual attention to students when necessary, including individual assignments.
- Conduct of periodical and terminal tests.
- Organization of seminars, panel discussion, debates etc.
- Ensuring that students who go in for exanimation fulfil all requirements.
- Regular visits to the hospital wards and departments and other practice fields.
Records of students
The following records are maintained:
- Register of attendance at classes, demonstrations, visits, etc.
- Record of practical experience.
- Marks of terminal tests and examinations.
- Leave account of students.
- Records of classes given by nursing, medical and other teacher.
- Health Records.
- Permanent/cumulative record of students.

Students Health
- Arrangement for initial and periodical health examinations and maintenance of health records.
- Periodical visits to students rooms to make sure that they practice personal hygiene.

- Supplying time tables of classes to Ward Sister.
- Maintenance of library, requisition of new books and journals.
- Inventory of class room supplies
- Inventory of class room equipment.
- Arrangements of functions for prize distribution lamp- lighting ceremony.
- Any other duty that may be assigned to her from time to time relating to nursing education.
