BMWM unit in VMMC and SJH implemented Biomedical Waste Management (BMWM) rules, 2016 and their amendments in 2018 and 2019 and Guidelines from central pollution control board (CPCB), GoI, 2022. The hospital is Authorised from DPCC under Rules and Guidelines. Bar code system and labelling of BMW bags to track the biomedical waste from area of generation (ward/ICU/OT/OPD) to its final disposal at CBWTF level is installed in common waste site. The Immunization waste guidelines, CPCB, 2021 were implemented in VMMC and SJH for vaccination and immunization centre. A team of doctors, sisters and supervisors monitor BMWM practices and implementation of the Rules and Guidelines. The report/data for BMWM, health-checkup vaccination, trainings, inspections etc on BMWM is shared on monthly and annual basis with MoHFW, DPCC and posted on website. VMMC and SJH is an important stakeholder for BMWM rules and CPCB guidelines in MoEF&CC, CPCB and MoHFW. Innovations like the BMWM android APP as per Rules and Guidelines to monitor and strengthen the BMWM segregation practices was introduced in VMMC and SJH in 2020-2021. There are publications articles (original articles, review articles, Book Chapter) , WHO report on BMWM from the BMWM unit . Implementation of the BMWM Rules and CPCB guidelines in the hospital and handholding for other institutes in Delhi and other states is regularly done thru workshops and conferences on national level with key stakeholders.
